A Word About...
SEALANTS
One of the most important advances in modern dentistry has been the development of sealants. We can now seal the pits and grooves on the biting surface of your teeth, which is where decay usually occurs, thereby preventing decay before it starts. The procedure does not involve drilling or numbing and it costs less than half the fee of an average filling.
X-RAYS
Certain dental problems can only be detected by the use of x-rays, therefore their diagnostic value is vital in many instances. We keep the exposure to an absolute minimum by using fast film and low exposure time, always covering our patients with a protective apron, and limiting the diagnostic films to once a year. We recommend a panoramic x-ray every three years at approximately the age of 15. This x-ray is vitally important in diagnosing problems such as impacted wisdom teeth, joint problems (TMJ), gum disease, oral cancer, cysts, abscesses, and other infections.
COSMETIC BONDING
The discovery of a way to bond hard plastics to natural teeth has changed dental procedures dramatically. The size, shape, and color of teeth can be changed, spaces can be closed, and old silver fillings can be replaced with matching tooth-colored fillings. The procedures are reasonable in cost and very durable. Please ask any staff member if you have an interest in changing the look of your smile.
BLEACHING
Recently a method of changing the lightness and brightness of natural teeth has been offered in dental offices. If having a white smile has been something that you have always wanted, we would be glad to discuss it with you.
INFECTION CONTROL
All instruments and materials used on each patient are either high heath sterilized or disposable, to eliminate microscopic organisms capable of causing diseases. Infection control procedures also include cleaning and disinfecting the surfaces and equipment in the treatment rooms after each patient.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to bring them to our attention. The health of our patients is a number one concern.
EMERGENCY CARE
In the event of an emergency, you may call the office and we will work you into our schedule as soon as possible. If we are not in the office, a message will tell you how to reach Dr. Cathey or the dentist on call. All new patients with an emergency will be seen on a pay as you go basis. We accept cash, checks, MasterCard and Visa for your convenience.
Preventive Program
Regular preventative visits are necessary in order to maintain healthy tooth, gum and bone support for a lifetime. Each patient is set up on a recare schedule designed to meet their individual need.
With thorough examinations, regular cleanings and x-rays, small concerns can be detected or prevented to maintain a healthy mouth.
Remember – it takes less time and cost to treat small tooth or gum concerns that larger neglected problems.
